1. Summary:
The theme of the first lecture was "What is the definition of sociology?" and operationalization. There are innumerable definitions of sociology, such as the definition of science that studies social phenomena, and the definition of science that studies human relationship behavior. There is no definite definition of sociology. Operationalization is the act of making measurements that can not be measured.
2. What was interesting/what did you learn:
I felt that the operationalization I learned in the lecture was very similar to the operational definition I had learned in high school. I also tried to do some manipulations myself.
1. Depression: a state in which there is no power to do anything and can not feel the reason for life.
2. Wealth: A state that is not threatened by food or shelter.
3. Power of relationship: Some friends can contact you immediately when there is something wrong.
3 .Discussion point:
I think there may be some problems in operationalization. This is due to the difference in the characteristics of physics and sociology, which is the beginning of operationalization. Unlike physics, which can be fully defined by physical laws, operationalization in sociology can cause confusion by making different definitions for each person.

What is sociology?/ week1/ minji jeong
1. What is sociology? What do you think?
: I think sociology is basis of all learning. Because we live in this society, and study the phenomena or events that happen here.
2. Try to operationalization (define and make measurable)
- Wealth: I think the wealth is that dose not prevent money problems from happening when you want to do something. The method of measuring wealth is to measure income distribution by household relatively.
- Power: I think power is built on the basis of social status or trust in human relations. This is power and leadership. The way to measure this is to measure what suggestions a person makes and whether others can accept and follow them
- Depression: Depression is state of human emotions contrary to happiness. The way to measure this is to think that if the emotions felt when looking at the same object are negative, it is depression. Furthermore, I think mental and professional judgement can measure the level of depression.
3. Why dose fashion change?
:I think the reason why fashion is change is because of people's characteristics. First, people always tend to persue new trends. They get tired of things that they have and interested in new things. Second, people want to feel a sense of 'belonging'. They feel member of society by following the fashion.Being a Sociologist / Week 1 / 김성희 Seonghui Kim

Why only a quarter of sociologists work outside the academic world? I think the practice of knowledge that the sociologists’ is most important to make the better world. Which one is more important, practicing knowledge or studying and developing the study? What do you think about it?
Introduction to Sociology/Being a Sociologist / week1 / Soongki Kim
1. Summary :
I'd like to briefly summarize this article as 'the relationship between social studies and jobs.'
This refers to the reasons why students choose their majors as sociology, what they study in sociology, and the advantages in employment compared to those who do not major in sociology by majoring in sociology.
In addition to being a sociologist, it also helps students advance to various fields in getting jobs after graduation through links with academic or doctoral degrees and other majors.
2. What was interesting/ What did you learn :
Before I read this article, I thought sociology was just theoretical. And I had a lot of trouble studying sociology in university and didn't think it was practical. As a result, I thought I can not find a job. So I regretted choosing a sociology department.
And when I majored in sociology, I had little intention of entering other fields except for my post-university career.
While reading this article, I learned that by majoring in sociology, I have an advantage when I write my resume or have an interview. I also learned that you can learn necessary elements from sociology in your country. In particular, analyzing customer preferences and behaviors using sociology was the most interesting.
This made me think positively about sociology.
3. Discussion point :
I can think about the relationship between social members and social phenomena while I study sociology and develop a view of society.
These can be used to provide solutions to social problems. And if I enter a company, as the text shows, I think I can use sociology to analyze customer preferences and behaviors to estimate the company's tendency.

What is sociology?/ week1/ 박서영 seoyoung Park
summary:
This week's class is about defining sociology and operationalization.
The definition of sociology is society, social relations, human behavior and social life and so on.
Sociology is also a very diverse field and defining sociology varies from person to person.
So i think sociology is an academic study of changes in society and the changing minds of people.
operationalization is a process of conceptual definition and require a method of measurement.
We can find non-operationalized definition in Google Books and wikipedia.
what was interesting/what did we learn:
I thought the definition of sociology was defined as one thing, but it was amazing that justice varied.
It was the first time I'd thought about operationalization and it was interesting to think about and define how to measure wealth, power in a relationship and depression.
Discussion point:
There are many ways to define sociology, and I wonder if there are any words that are absolutely necessary or words that shouldn't be entered in that definition.

What is sociology / Week 1 / 차주희 JuHee Cha
1.
Summary
We first learned what the
definition of sociology is. The definition of sociology consisted of society,
social relationship, human behavior, social life, and more. It was not decided
what was best and everything we thought could be the definition of sociology.
I also learned about Operalization. Just like sociology, it defines a measure of an phenomenon that is not measurable.
I also learned about Operalization. Just like sociology, it defines a measure of an phenomenon that is not measurable.
2.
What was interesting/what did you learn
When the class first
started, I had time to think about what sociology was. Our team thought sociology
is relationship between communities. In fact, it seems difficult to define
sociology as a single sentence. Every friend of mine had different opinions and
it was true. And defining abstract things like 'wealth', 'power in a
relationship', and 'depression' took a lot of time to think.
3.
Discussion Point
I think sociology is a very broad subject. And when I think about the
word sociology, it seems boring. I wonder how sociology is being applied to our
modern society. And I wonder what fields are in sociology. I want to apply sociology
closer to our lives.
Sociological Method and Theories / Angela Wibowo / 9367820180
BLOG 2 :WHAT IS SOCIOLOGY PART 2
(sociological method and theory)/ Week 2 / Angela
Summary :
In sociology we have to
understand the social phenomena, we should know about the theory about the
contex of the phenomena, and scientific method to measure and analyse the data.
To analyse data, we have
to know about the contex because, there are so many theories of sociology, and
so much phenomena that we can learn and relate with sociology, such as symbolic
theory. This theory is about the relationship between humans and society, human
action and interaction with a meaningful communication ot symbols.
According to the
articles, Epistemology is simply a way of knowing. Epistemology will be rejected
if it is not supported by the evidence and using scientific method to get the
data to be more empiric. With using the scientific method we can make the
common sense become more accurate because, with the scientific method we can
get the evidence, so the common sense can become a real and accurate data, and
the analysis of the data and we conclude the result from the analysis of the data. There are four
steps of scientific, there are characterization (operationalization),
hypothesis, prediction, and testing.
What was Interesting / What did you learn
From these articles, I
learn that sociology has so many theories and it can be related with social
phenomena, such as symbolic theory that is related with human’s behavior, and
I’m interested that it is related with psychology theories, because it is about
human’s behavior.
Discussion point :
After
reading these articles, I have a question about the theory. Can the theories
related with the ideology/idealism of one country?
