W2. Introduction to Sociology/Sociological Theory/KIM YOON

Sociologists develop theories to explain social phenomena. First, structural-functionalism is a sociological theory that originally attempted to explain social institutions as collective means to meet individual biological needs. Second, there is conflict theory. It argues that society is not best understood as a complex system striving for equilibrium but rather as a competition. Third, in contrast to the rather broad approach toward society of structural-functionalism and conflict theory, symbolic interactionism is a theoretical approach to understanding the relationship between humans and society. Besides, there are many theories that can explain our societies.
In conflict theory, the limitation that it can be too-much to maintain society stable was interesting and new for me. I newly knew most of changes in societies are minor matters. But conflict theory tends to exaggerate the matter because I agree that as time goes on, scale of them shrink spontaneously.
I think discussion point in this script is 'What theory among them is pervaded in Korea in these days?'
