W3. Introduction to Sociology/Religion/KIM YOON

Sociologists study religion the same way they study other social institutions, like education or government. The aim is primarily to understand religions, but included in trying to understand religions is the aim of trying to predict what religions will eventually do. Before describing different religions, it is important for us to understand that these classifications are a good example of what sociologists refer to as ideal types. Marx especially explained religion. Marx said, "religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the feeling of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless circumstances. It is the opium of the people."
I realized there are many tries to link religion with many other areas like health, wealthiness, education and so on. And also realized it helps to understand how our macro/micro surroundings are associated with religion.
I think the discussion point is 'conflict between religion or ideology.' Still, religion and ideology conflicts are exist. So it may be good topic if we heard or witnessed that conflicts around us.
