1. Summary
Collective behavior is understanding a large group's behavior. It is important because it is an element that changes our society. There are various forms of collective behavior. Crowds are a common occurenece in modern life. There are four types of crowd. Casual, conventional, expressive, and acting crowds. If crowds are in a disaster situation they easy to get panic. Moral panic is a mass movement which is usually based on group. These kind of panic could lead to mob violence. Rumors are also the source of collective behavior. This have three basic characteristics. They are transmitted by word of mouth, and could provide information, and express each's feeling to others. Rumor could make collective behavior arouse, eventhough it is not true. Also, rumors can be used as a political communication strategies. There are lots of example that government used rumor to make collective behavior change.
2. What did you learn?
There are theories of crowd behavior. As an example, convergence theory suggest that the crowd's behavior is not an emergent property of crowd. So some crowd's behavior could result from individual's act.
 
3. Discussion
Collective behavior have a big influence on our act and our society. This could influence as a positive result like protecting citizen from government which abuse their power. But also, collective behavior could result as an pessimistic, because crowds react at rumor with not judging it is true or not.
