W1. Introduction to Sociology/Introduction/KIM YOON

This page introduces us to sociology and explain why it is important, how it can change our perspective of the world around us, and give a brief history of the discipline. Sociology is a branch of the social sciences that uses systematic methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop and refine a body of knowledge about human social structure and activity. Early sociological studies considered the field to be similar to the natural sciences, like physics or biologyToday, sociologists study a broad range of topics. For instance, some sociologists research macro-structures that organize society, such as race or ethnicitysocial classgender, and institutions such as the family. Other sociologists study social processes that represent the breakdown of macro-structures, including deviancecrime, and divorce. Additionally, some sociologists study micro-processes such as interpersonal interactions and the socialization of individuals.
From this script, I could learn about sophisticated history of sociology. There were a variety of studies to understand sociology. From the past, many sociologists tried to see our social problem and global problem in terms of micro/macro level.
I think 'the scope of sociology' is discussion point. Although sociology is interdisciplinary subject, therefore there can be confusion specifying the border of sociology.
