Q. Why do you think South Korea places so high on this ranking?

A. Koreans value their personal achievements. Korean society seems to want people to focus on gaining fame rather than pursuing the fun of life. For example, students are encouraged to attend prestigious universities and adults are encouraged to get jobs in good companies. In this culture, Korean society has turned into a competitive society, and in order to keep up, people give up happiness and concentrate only on their work. That's why they seem to have such a high suicide rate.
