week 12 / Collective_Behavior & Social Movements / Juhee Cha

1. Summary
Collective behavior refers to social processes and events that appear in a voluntary manner. One of the reasons for studying group behavior is to change social factors. This is a component of collective action known as a social movement. The theory of mass behavior includes  Contagion Theory, Convergence Theory, Emergent-Norm Theory, Crowds as "Gatherings"
Social movements are the broad social alliances of people connected through joint interests that prevent or influence social change. Social movement theory includes deprivation theory, mass social theory, structural transformation theory, resource mobilization theory, political process theory, and culture theory.

2 .Interesting point
Aberle's social movements were interesting. First, it is where the group is trying to change, and secondly, how much is being defended. The first is the individual dimension, the broad division, and the second is the sharing of minor radical changes.
Blumer's four types of people are differentiated. Casual, conventional, and expressive acting are divided into two types. It was interesting that the outcome was a riot when the crowd action progressed toward a particular, violent goal.

3. Discussion point
When there is a large crowd, it is difficult to say No alone when everyone says YES. Even the true facts are often believed to be false if others say false. Why is this so? What theory does it relate to?
