Collective Behavior / Week12 / sukyung Song

Collective Behavior

1. Summary

-Define terms
Refers to social processes and events that do not reflect the existing social structure but appear in a voluntary manner. Collective behavior can be defined as non-adaptive behavior or deviation.
Collective behavior includes limited and short-term social interactions and groups tend to stay together longer. There is no clear social boundary in collective action. Group members are usually more sensible. Group behavior produces weak and pessimistic norms, and groups tend to have stronger and more general norms.

-The Crowd
a meeting of people who share purposes, intentions and influences with one another common occurrence in modern life There are people who usually get together for sports games, concerts, etc.

-Panic
It is a sudden fear that dominates thought and often affects a group of people. It could jeopardize the overall health of the panic-stricken group.

-Riots
It is a form of civic disorder characterized by an unorganized group of sudden and violent violence, destruction, and other crimes.
-Mass Hysteria
It is a diagnostic label that is applied to a mental state, one of the most difficult fears to manage or emotional excesses to manage.

-Fads
Temporary trends, also known as fashions, are the ones that gain popularity relatively quickly in culture and often over a relatively short period of time, and then dramatically lose their popularity.

-Rumors
Generally any kind of statement whose veracity is not quickly or reliably verified. It is conveyed as an introductory statement, provides "information" about people and events and expresses and satisfies the emotional needs of the community.

2. Interacting

"Do you study group behavior?" was interesting. I think collective action is studied to identify, manage and exploit the crowd. I learned that people can be used in various ways, such as sales, architecture, and design.
Although group behavior is divided into crowd and rioting, I think it is a relative concept. In the case of Korea's dictatorial government, the people's social movement toward democracy was called a riot. In this regard, I think that distinguishing between group behaviors is the deep involvement of the distinguishing person.

3. Discussion

What are some of our overcrowded collective actions?
