Social Movements / Week 12/ 배찬형 Bae Chanhyeong

1. Summary

This topic deals with social movements. Social movements are alliances among people who share common themes that affect society. Social movements occur when social movements get together and many meanings are put together. Giddens said that social movements operate in four areas of modern society. It is a democratic movement, a labor movement, an ecology movement, and a peace movement. These movements are divided by type by certain criteria. It is divided into four types by who leads the movement and how much it has changed. The stage of sharing social movements is also described. Social movements take place for many reasons and are shaped. There are some approaches to the development of social movements. There is a theory of social process in which an individual exercises to improve his or her condition. These theories were researched to explain the way in which social movements were developed from a certain point of view.

2. Interesting Point

Reading the theoretical part of the political process, I found it interesting. People who are against politics have scarcity and discontent. Such animosity among certain members of society is to provoke unfairness in the system and to create collective opposition. I think this is something that uses human social parts. Reading political process theory, I thought there was something similar to the protests in our country. This is because they are working out to express their dissatisfaction with the weaknesses of the existing political system and to achieve the desired results of those who exercise social movements. Therefore, they agreed that results and collective benefits can be obtained, whether they want to or not. I think that if we exercise socially on any political issue, we can definitely get collective benefits, grow and have consequences.

3. Discussion

Social movement is the practice of people with the same thoughts on a problem trying to solve it socially. Such conduct prompts for crisis and change. People need to be involved and captain in social movements. What do we need to say about the success of this social movement? Can we share success and failure in social movements?

1 comment:

  1. I think I can share the success and failure of the social movement. Social movements are alliances among people who share common themes that affect society. But I think this common idea may not be agreed upon by many. No matter how common the idea of a social movement is, I think it has failed unless it is welcomed by a large number of people.
