what are culture and religion /week3 /JongSeo Lee/ 이종서

Q. What are culture and religion?

Answer...

1.summary

Culture is a combination of the history of a country or region and human life. This tells us that culture plays a role in a society of the norm and principle in which a person lives.
Also, Because culture is diverse, social studies think that study of this culture needs to be actively carried out. As the coexistence of different races and cultures can result in complex information and values.

Religion is the product of belief in the transcendental existence man artificially created. I also think that because there are different forms of faith in different countries and regions, it is classified as a culture. In Southeast Asia, for example, religion developed with Buddhism, indigenous faith, folk religion, and so on, while Christianity developed in the West. These religions also develop into cultures, such as rituals in Buddhist culture and worship in Christian culture.

2. What did you learn?

I learned how much religion and culture had in sociology, and this knowledge gave me the opportunity to think more about them.

3. Discussion point

Let's think about religion and culture in order.
Even in ancient times, culture and religion developed together.
Is culture first or religion first?
So I'm curious about your opinion on these issues.

  1. I think culture comes first. Culture is everything we can have in mind. I think that one person needs to mean something about a group to create religion. I think religion was born because of the development of culture.

  2. I usually think culture comes first. Because I think culture is bigger idea than religion. The reason why, If a particular religion is a national religion, religion can be in the culture of that country. But otherwise, religion will only make people who believe in it feel the same identity.

  3. I think religion affects culture. In our case, the culture of the Goryeo Dynasty that believed in Buddhism and the Joseon Dynasty that believed in Confucianism is very different. I think culture is affected by religion.

  4. I think religion comes before culture.
For example, after believing in Buddhism, people made a tower and understood its values.
So people created the religion and then created a culture about it.
