Culture/ week3/ minji jeong

1.summary

Culture is complex. Culture covers a wide range of social norms, values, tastes, beliefs and communication styles. In other words, anything that has meaning to its members is culture. The meaning of culture is different in each society, so certain facts can also be interpreted differently in different areas. In addition, culture is always changing in a society. Whether it is visible or not, it is changing and the speed is all different. Culture stimulates the collective expression and feelings of mutual support of members and ultimately keeps society in order. However, reverse functions encourage and maintain social inequality. It is used to represent the privileged class of society, and there are cultural customs that place gender inequality.

2.interesting point

It was interesting to note that an element called an 'level of abstraction' was needed to clarify the culture. First of all, the word itself was strange. Cultural concepts can have different levels of meaning. It was interesting to note that it was important to try to understand the concept of culture in mind, and to be able to act on each other in each continuous and complex way at this level.

3.discussion

In fact, I think the concept of culture is a rather incomplete word. It is worrisome that the world's regional characteristics of cultural relativism may turn into extreme cultural relativism. Is it appropriate to recognize "moral murder" because it is important to respect culture?
