Race and Ethnicity/Week 10/ seoyoung Park 박서영

Summary:

I studied race and ethnicity this time. Race is about dividing people by physical characteristics. People are biologically divided according to their skin color and facial characteristics. Ethnicity refers to the social characteristics that people share with each other when they are related to race. Social characteristics include nationality, faith, national language, shared culture, and common tradition. Prejudice is a prejudgment of a fact or action. Prejudice is called thinking or judgment of things that are not directly or physically experienced. Prejudice is a negative view. Also, prejudice can not be discriminated against. Racism is usually a minority but sometimes a majority. Pollution and pollution facilities are not widely distributed in American society and are usually concentrated in one place. Pollution and pollution facilities are mainly distributed in areas of ethnic minorities.

What was interesting/What did we learn:

I've heard a lot of things for the first time in Chapter. First, I was surprised that interracial marriage was banned in the United States. There are now many international marriages in our country and there are many stories about multiculturalism. So it was amazing that there was no interracial marriage in the United States. In the United States, interracial marriage became possible in 1967. Before 1967, if a person married someone of a different race from him, he had to go to jail or pay a fine. However, although interracial marriages were possible, their perception did not improve. Even in 2002, there were people who were in favor of laws against interracial marriage.

Discussion point:

In the past, there was a lot of racism, but it is gradually decreasing. But there are still many racism around the world. I think improving awareness is important to eliminate racism. What do we do to improve our perception?
