Race and Ethnicity/Week 10/ Soo Bin Moon 문수빈

Summary:
Races are classified biologically according to their morphological characteristics, such as skin color and facial characteristics. This isolated race has an impact on the individual's social identity. The term ethnicity is categorized by focusing more on the past and culture that are shared unlike races. In the United States, slaves are also slaves and slavery has been further intensified in order to build wealth more economically. Some sociologists still find it more useful to understand racial concepts as extended family concepts. Therefore, this study utilizes clustering research, primarily to identify the social makeup of biological and genetic explanations of racial, racial, racial similarities and differences. There is a biological difference between races, especially within races. Therefore, the best way to understand race is to recognize the overlap between socially constructed boundaries and biological and genetic factors.

What was interesting/What did we learn:
I considered bias and bias negative. But some sociologists have argued that bias and prejudice can promote survival. But I became more sympathetic to the article that prejudice can be a personal harm.
I also first realized the structural racism that points to the inequalities embedded in the system. In addition, there were cultural racism and historical racism. It was also surprising that the recent color-raising racism has repackaged the obvious white supremacy.

Discussion point:
Do you think racial discrimination is more influenced by biological factors? Or do you think it is more influenced by sociological factors?

  1. I think racism has been more affected by sociological factors. Growing up rather than biology would create unconscious biases about racism.

  2. I think the sociological factor affects racism. Because there is no reason to say that black and Asian people, one of the people being segregated, are biologically inferior. They are just being discriminated against so far by the influence of class which was divided in previous societies.
