Stratification / Week 9 / 배찬형 Bae Chanhyeong

1. Summary
This topic talks about layering. Layering means dividing the classes of members of society. They are talking about differentiating people according to their wealth. There is inequality when some resources are scarce and valuable. This inequality immediately leads to discrimination and creates a stratification of areas of race, gender, etc. as well as economics.
Society's material production relationships make it stratified. At these layers, the upper and lower layers of the blood are formed. In this relationship, social stratification does not disappear easily because the wealth gained by the ruling class continues to maintain the upper class.
While these inequalities continue to persist, they cannot be forced to equalize because they are in a capitalist society.
Sociologists define social and economic conditions in three ways based on Max Weber's idea. The three characteristics are power, wealth and fame. Based on these characteristics, it represents a person's social class or economic status. The surprising result of the statistics, taking these factors into account, was that only 400 Americans had wealth equal to half the American people combined. The population of the United States is about 32 million, and it is amazing how much wealth is equal to 400 Americans. But this inequality continues.
Sociologist Joel Charon attributed the rich and strong to protecting the system of inequality. And secondly, it teaches acceptance of cultural inequality and eliminates the reason for equalizing inequality. And thirdly, it's because people accept their social status and educate their children where they have accepted it. Finally, society protects the inequality system.

2. Interesting point
As inequality continues, the poor are uneducated and continue to live in poverty. He said that his life would be in danger because he could not receive medical benefits and that his life expectancy would be short.

3. DIscussion
Can you accept that only 400 Americans have the same wealth as 166 million Americans? No matter how much a capitalist society is needed to circulate wealth.
