WEEK 10 / Race, Ethnicity and Gender / ANGELA WIBOWO

Summary :
This week we will talking about race, ethnicity, and gender. Race is the way hoe to differentiate people, and usually it based on the physical differences, such as skin color, facial characteristics and others. Race has connectivity with ethnicity but it is not refer to physical difference, but it is related with social traits by human population, such as nationality, tribe, religious faith, shared language, shared culture, traditions and others.
There are kinds of judging, there are prejudice, bias, and discrimination. Prejudice means pre-judging something, and it refers  to the negative views of an individual or group of individuals that based on social stereotypes. Discrimination Bias is post-judgment or belief or viewpoints based from experience that maintain unfair or stereotypical perspectives on a group of people. Based on the article, discrimination is different from prejudice, that is actual mistreatment of a group or individual based on some criteria. Prejudice can lead for discrimination.
Now we will talking about gender. There is a difference between gender and sex, based on the article. Gender refers to a person’s behavior, which is masculine or feminine behavior. Sex refers to person’s assignments, by medical, religious, governmental authorities, etc. There is discrimination for gender that is sexism. It is a discrimination against people based on their perceived sex or gender and it refer to belief that there are only 2 sexes, one sex is superior, men and women are different in society language, etc, and simple hatred of men or women or trans.

What was interesting / what did you learn ?
There are something interesting, that I just know about the sexism, and this is my new knowledge about gender discrimination, and as we know that there are so many gender  discrimination around us, and it is concerned these days.
Disscussion :
I just want to know, Is there any way to stop discrimination, for race, ethnicity, and gender?

1 comment:

  1. There are some of policy applied by government to avoid this situation but still I think the key point in stopping discrimination is really is the individual itself. We have to throw away our biases to certain group and think them as another human just like us.
