Summary
This lecture was about the methods used in studying
sociology. Generally ‘Epistemologies’ (claiming that they know things about
something based on their experience, logic, tradition, revelation, science) would
be rejected if there is no scientific evidence. By gathering scientific methods
( Characterization, Hypothesis, Prediction, Testing) , sociology would be more reliable study.

What is interesting / What did
you learn
I
thought that studying sociology based on experience, logic, science would be
enough. But after reading thing lecture, I learned that using scientific method
is essential because it makes sociology more supportable.

Discussion point
How could social problems that only humans can understand and cannot
be solved with science be study?
To overcome the limitations of scientific research, sociologists study humans and society in depth through qualitative research. So in sociology, not only quantitative research but qualitative research is important.
