Sociological Methods / Week2 / 김권수/Kwonsoo Kim

1.summary

Sociology approaches science with positivism and adopts quantitative approaches to describe and predict social phenomena. This approach often uses deductive reasoning. Qualitative sociology in itself aims to understand culture or phenomena, and qualitative sociologists use inductive reasoning more often. Science is a very careful way to create a supported and proven understanding of our nature and social world.
The basic elements of scientific methods are characterization, hypothesis, prediction, and repetition of four stages of testing.

2. what is interesting

It was interesting to take a quantitative approach to exploring the world of society. This approach will require a lot of data and it will never be easy to organize and quantify.

3.discussion point

It was said that if the prediction was wrong, the theory would be revised or destroyed, and if it were to be a very extreme example, sociologists would question how to amend and discard the theory
