Deviance/ Week7/ 박서영 seoyoung Park

Summary:

This chapter has learned about deviance.
Deviation refers to all activities that do not adhere to the norm, the social expectations that lead people.
Deviations are divided into formal deviance and informal deviance. Formal deviance is an act of breaking the law, such as robbery, fraud, and murder. Informal deviance is an act that has not been established by law, but that does not respect informal norms.
Deviance is judged differently by each country or region.
People who did not follow social norms, or those who did deviant acts, have been punished by others and pressured to abide by social norms.

What was interesting/What did we learn:

I haven't thought much about white-collar crime, so I remember about it.
White-collar crime is a crime committed by the rich and the powerful.
For example, tax eviction, bindery and public opinion and money making.
These crimes were not usually seen around us and were often seen in dramas, movies, or news.
White-collar crime is crime that people are less likely to sue and crime that is less likely to be prosecuted.
Since white-collar crime is unlikely to be sued, I thought there are many crimes that are not yet known.
So I thought we should prevent other crimes, but we should prevent white collar crimes more.

Discussion point:

I learned that social norms and deviance behavior are relative. I wonder if there is a case where there is a deviation in the past but not now. I wonder if this is a deviance behavior in Korea but not in other countries.

1 comment:

  1. Perhaps there was a deviation in the past. Of course it may be different from what it is now, but it must have existed. Differences will also exist in other countries, which may differ from Korea due to cultural differences.
