Deviance/Week7/Zhang PeiYao

Summary:
Deviance is a kind of social behavior, which refers to the disobedience to a set of established norms accepted by the majority of people in a community or society. In a certain economic and cultural environment, any thoughts and behaviors that are judged by social members as violating their social norms or values are deviant. Transgressions include all thoughts and ACTS of crime, lawlessness, violation of ethics, social customs, and fashion. People's understanding of deviant behavior starts from the explanation system in the society where this behavior occurs. What constitutes deviant behavior depends on different social circumstances.Deviant behavior refers to the behavior that violates certain social code of conduct, values or moral norms. Usually manifested as resistance to authority figures, which is rooted in the bad influence of bad people and bad things in real society (including TV and movies), as well as some characteristics of physical and mental development in the individual's growth process, such as immaturity and imitation.

What was interesting/What did we learn:
We can't completely define deviance, and there is some misunderstanding about it. First, deviant behavior is not necessarily bad and unacceptable behavior. Second, transgressions are not always voluntary. It is difficult to draw a clear dividing line between non-compliance and non-compliance. Third, deviant behavior is not necessarily criminal behavior. While most crimes are transgressions, not all are crimes. Fourth, deviant behavior, although not approved, is a common cultural phenomenon. Fifth, transgressions can be individual or group or organization.

Discussion point:
An important aspect of deviant behavior is its impact on society as a whole. What social function do you think deviances have?
