Q. How could we try to explain this?

A. The countries on the left side of the graph have fewer wealth than the countries on the right. People in the country on the left are not rich enough to be financially satisfied, so it is difficult to achieve everything they want. So people in the country think they want to be compensated by religion in the next life, afterlife, not in the present.
