Conflict theory/ week11/ minji jeong 정민지

1.Summary

Conflict theory is a macro view of sociology. It is characterized by radical and progressive tendencies over functional theory. Conflict theory states that human beings' struggles with individuals and groups to meet their needs continue to destabilize society and lead to social change. This is mainly to account for social change rather than social order. Some of the leading scholars who argued for conflict were Marx, Weber, and Mills.

Marx focused on economic structures such as the distribution of wealth. He advocated communism, with the elimination of the irrational division of the ruling class and the distribution of blood. Capitalism is unjust and talks about the validity of communism. Weber argues that conflict has caused power, prestige, and property to become the cause of social conflict, and that these causes have exposed themselves in all aspects of conflict. To resolve the conflict, the government should create an environment in which the capital struggle against resources can thrive.Mills argues that there is a fillip between people of low social status and those at the top of the socio-economic class, resulting in resource struggles and unequal distribution of influence. This theory has had a great influence on modern conflict theory. One of the consequences of conflict among those with competitive advantage and resources is the creation of a social structure.

C onflict theory focuses on conflicts and contradictions in social components. Therefore, conflict theory has the limitation that it neglects cooperation and harmony that exist in social and cultural phenomena. In addition, some point out that the importance of resolving contradictions and conflicts can be neglected in society's existence and integration identity.

2.Interesting point

The following are the data from Greece in 2005. Thus, while street crime, even financial crimes, are routinely punished severely, large-scale financial and business crimes are treated much more leniently. Television theft can receive longer sentences than stealing millions of dollars through illegal business practices.Proponents of conflict theory argue that crime and criminal justice in modern society are designed to be a powerful way of maintaining upper-class power while obeying and excluding lower-class classes. I wondered if their argument was really logical. I think the efforts to maintain self-status and power by maintaining a sense of inferiority are portraying a social departure from conflict.

3.Discussion

Modern societies justify the process of depriving and exploiting the lower classes of power to maintain and reproduce their vested interests as conflict theory. No matter how social theory may be, I think that "abandition" and "argument" are unjustifiable things. But what's interesting is that this behavior applies to both democracy and socialist countries and dictatorships. Do you think the flow of society can justify the injustice of modern society?
