Why do you think South Korea places so high
on this ranking?
I think the suicide rate is high due to the influence of habits in the past
that we regard silence as virtue. Korea is living in a highly competitive
society. And most people are engaged in economic activities in the second,
third and fourth industries and under the influence of industrialization. In
this situation, modern people are under a lot of stress. However, due to the
practice of silence and patience, many modern people have endured the stress
rather than solving stress. And such stresses build up and modern people have
chosen the extreme behavior of suicide. Recently, this problem has become
popular and many people are trying to heal their wounds. Therefore, I predict
that Korea's suicide rate will gradually decrease.
