Gender/ week10 / Juhee Cha

1. summary
Sociologists distinguish between sexes. It can also be seen in social, historical, cultural, political and scientific contexts. Gender can also be interpreted socially. Gender can sometimes create discriminatory social status based on stereotypes that distinguish male and female behavior. Let's look at traditional gender characteristics. Feminine characteristics are obedience, emotional, intuitive and receptive, a shy, sensitive and so on. On the other hand, male sex is dominant, independent, rational, dogmatic, analytical, brave, and insensitive. Theory of gender differences in gender socialization and structural functionalism, theory, theory of symbolic interaction, and women's conflict, patriarchy, etc.

2. interesting point
Among the theories of sexual discrimination, conflict theory and symbolic interaction theory were interesting. Collision theory states that sex is best understood in terms of power relations. Being dominant and exclusive to men is considered power that harms women. Iconic interaction theory is to investigate the various meanings and constructions of gender. Pay attention to the changing ways in which the dynamic and social norms change. Looking at these theories, I thought the collision theory would be used to weigh the advantages in the power relationship between women and men. And I thought symbolic interaction theory would be used to look at gender changes.

3. discussion point
There is a structural caution in the theory of sexual discrimination. Are structural functional principles a good theory for any research? Tell me about the real thing.
