Race and Ethnicity / week10 / sukyung song

1. Summary

- the definition of race and race
Race refers to physical differences in humans and is conceptualized for the biological classification of humans according to morphological features such as skin color and facial characteristics. Race
It is also related to political concepts.

Ethnicity is not a physical trait, but a social trait shared by mankind, which is categorized by cultures that have been passed on in the past.

- Discipline and discrimination
Prejudice generally accompanies negative emotions and assessments in a manner that has one-sided opinions or opinions about a particular group. Prejudice to a particular group leads to discrimination by external actions such as penalizing the group and its members through the action of a negative assessment.

Discrimination is basically a form of control that separates a particular group from society by treating the group of equal status unequal by arbitrary standards.

- Humanitarianism
It refers to the idea of discriminating against others based on 'racial' that they either recognize or believe so. Basically, this is an exclusionism that reveals animosity against a particular race, which we believe is meaningful in dividing people into different races. Racism can be seen as the idea that people of different races are different or inferior to themselves in consciousness or unconsciousness. Some people who use this system believe that race can be divided into different classes.

There is Structural Racism, Cultural Racism, Historic Racism, Racional Profiling, Color-Blind Racism.

- Minor race
Minorities tend to be absorbed by the majority. This assimilation can be spontaneous or forced.

2. Interesting

It was interesting that the way to distinguish race from race is different. People tend to discriminate against other races or races with prejudices. I wondered what the psychology of people who didn't admit they were different and said wrong. And it was also a chance to reflect on myself if I unconsciously didn't mind others.

3. Discussion

What are some ways to reduce racism?

  1. I think we should first consider the causes of racial discrimination. I think the first is because of personal perception, the second social perception, the third because of historical events, and the fourth because of cultural differences. If we can solve this problem, we can eliminate racism.
