Stratification / week9 / MinSeung Sung

Stratification / week9 / MinSeung Sung

1. Summary
Stratification is an easy-to-find phenomenon in every part of our lives. It comes from various kinds of inequality. Inequality occurs when people do not have equal access to resources. Stratification is widespread throughout the world. First, we can look at stratification in terms of socioeconomic status. According to Max Weber, layering can be seen in three ways. It is called "SES" and it means class, status, and party.
There are many kinds of inequality that make stratification. Capitalism, race, gender, and class are representative.

2. Interesting
The graph of American social class was most interesting. Along with the graphs, we could see what people in the United States did in the past 90s. One example was the working class who were paid low wages and paid $6 an hour at Wal-Mart. He always had to work a lot of time to survive. After the Great Depression, the gap between the upper and lower classes has widened. Currently, the richest person in the U.S. is responsible for more than one-third of national income. I think this is the best example of modern stratification.

3. Discussion

The deepening of stratification is certainly a serious problem in modern society. It is also impossible to completely eliminate it. So how do we reduce the conflict by layering?
