1. Summary
Stratification means placing people step by step. In particular, stratification occurs frequently economically. They are mainly divided into power, wealth, and status. Sociologist Joel Charon said, "The reason this stratification continues is because the rich and the strong are protected by the inequality system and the culture teaches acceptance of inequality.

2. What was interesting / What did you learn
Stratification is a very interesting subject. In a capitalist society, in particular, the elimination of inequality is the most important task. However, it was interesting to say that as this level of inequality increases, it could create a huge amount of wealth. That is, as the nation becomes richer, it is inevitable that inequality will grow.

3. Discussion Point
How much do you think it is possible for the lower classes to go to the higher classes in the current Republic of Korea?

  1. I think that if people from lower classes want to go to higher classes, graduating from a prestigious university and getting a job at a government or a large company is a way for them to move to higher classes.

    1. I did not ask how the lower classes could rise to the upper classes. However, I think this is a good answer. Isn't it because people study and prepare to get a job? So, how much is it possible to get to the upper class in this way?
