Week 13-2 : Aging Heo SeonYeong 허선영

Summary:
A person's biological age and subjective age may not coincide. There is work to be done at a certain age group, but not doing it may not match social age standards. Aging is a complex, relative, subjective, and intertwined social reality. Life span can be divided into early childhood, childhood, youth, young adult, adulthood, middle age, and old age. Western society values youth and Eastern society thinks older people have wisdom. According to these societies, Western societies are relatively
It is considered to be a higher age at a younger age. Older people try to look young, but teenagers dress up to look like adults. Also, it may vary depending on the country's average life span. In countries with long life expectancy, women in their mid-20s are young adults, but not when life expectancy is short. We often get prejudiced against youth and old people. Older people, in particular, have a prejudice against being honest, which is not true. Discrimination against the elderly includes physical abuse. Older adults who are abused in psychological, physical and sexual ways are at twice the risk of dying earlier than other older adults. Social security programs were implemented to reduce poverty in the elderly population. These programs were successful, but in contrast, they led to an increase in poverty in the population under 18. This is an inevitable result.

What was interesting/What did we learn:
It was interesting that age could also be linked to sex and race. I also enjoyed the extent to which senior citizens were allocated across the United States. There were elderly people concentrated in the Midwest and Southern regions, especially in Florida. It is true that older people migrate to Florida. But in the Midwest, the percentage of elderly people is high because there are no young people.

Discussion point:
What does aging mean in society? Shall we simply say that the efficiency of the work is getting worse? The age to quit working? I wonder what can be said about aging.
