Sociological Methods / Week 2 / 한예림/Han Yerim

1)Summary
Humans use several methods to gain knowledge. These methods include rights, experience, logic, traditions, development, and science. This method of claiming to know a particular object is called epistemology.
Sociology is rejected if information collected using different cognitive theories is not supported by evidence collected using scientific methods. The scientific method described here is considered for scientific research based on verifiable evidence and for the acquisition of new knowledge. This is approached through positivism (experienceism).
Scientific methods repeatedly derive characteristics, hypotheses, prediction, and testing.  We can measure and quantify social phenomena by using quantitative methods. Rather than measuring, we use qualitative methods to explore natural world changes that can be seen, touched, and experienced in everyday life.

2)What was interesting / What did you learn
Before I read this article, I thought society and science were twofolded. However, I changed my mind when I read the article, "If scientific evidence is not supported within social studies, the social opinion will be rejected." In fact, if you take an article as an example, you may see that people will not believe it unless there is clear evidence.

3)Discussion Point
On the contrary, would it be rejected if social factors did not support the information collected through science?

  1. I think it cannot be approved without objective evidence scientifically collected. This is because research without evidence becomes subjective research. I think subjective research is just a list of researchers' ideas.
