Sociological Methods/week2/soongki Kim

1.Summary
This article describes the methods of authority, experience, logic, tradition, and science as a way for a person to acquire knowledge and characterize each method.
And in scientific methods, there are characterization, hypothesis, prediction, and test, and each character is described.
In addition, the quantitative and qualitative methods of studying social phenomena are compared and described in relation to the limitations of social studies.

2.What was interesting/ What did you learn
There are various methods of research in social phenomena and scientific research.
And each of these methods has its own characteristics and limitations.
Social studies and scientific studies ultimately begin with the intervention of human values, and both studies share the common ground that scientific evidence, not just forecasts, should be supported.

3.Discussion point
The reason why it is difficult to study human behavior is probably because humans are not the same as machines or natural phenomena.
Human behavior is completely unpredictable or preventable with certain theories or methods of research, although it occurs with certain patterns in how machines operate or occur, but in the case of human behavior, human beings have different characteristics and think differently.
So, how should human behavior be studied?

  1. I agree with the idea that human behavior is completely unpredictable. So, how should human behavior be studied? Instead of using statistical methods to analyze human behavior, I came up with a way of looking at the groups you should study. For example, we can interview or use the way we live together. It is called qualitative research.

    1. I agree with you, Qualitative research will find common ground in human behavior. But I think it's hard to be a universal rule to have some correlation.
