Socialization / Week6 / Kwon Ah Yeon

1. summary

Socialization refers to the process of learning culture, which is the lifestyle of one's own group, in order to adapt and live in society. It is very important for humans to learn the way they behave and think in order to grow up in society and to live as a member of it. Socialization can be divided into primary socialization conducted during childhood by family and close people, and lifelong socialization through intentional education and training from childhood to daily experience.
Socialization has various functions. Individuals are adapted to society and integrated to maintain society, stability of social structure and order. Socialization, however, may regenerate the existing social hierarchy to maintain and strengthen the power of vested interests.
Socialization is one of the most important processes for human life, but it can vary widely depending on culture. This means that different cultures have slightly different ways of socializing.

2. What is interesting

The case of children who failed to socialize was shocking and impressive. Uneducated due to parental abuse and neglect, Genie failed to learn her native language despite the education and research of experts and continued to show her unsocialized human behavior. Although we knew from theories that socialization was important, we really knew how much socialization had a huge impact on human life.

3. Discussion Point

I heard that socialization depends on culture, but I wonder how our country and foreign countries can socialize differently. I want to know what the differences are, except for a culture that is clearly distinct from the general life of the indigenous people. Also, I wonder where such socialization gap appears.

  1. I think the difference in socialization depends on the nature of the group. The nature of the group affects the socialization of its members. These differences will bring about socialization differences.
