Extra posting: How can we reduce the suicide rates in Korea? MinSeung Sung

South Korea has a particularly high suicide rate for senior citizens, according to the OECD survey. The suicide rate over the age of 65 nearly increased five times from 1990 to about 70 per 100,000.

Korea's policy of fast economic growth has intensified social polarization. Nearly half of Korea's senior citizens are in relatively poor income. As the quality of life decreased, the level of stress and depression deepened, which had a significant impact on increasing suicidal thoughts. The number of elderly suicides is increasing for economic reasons.

To solve this problem, welfare policies for the underprivileged are needed.
