The causes of war/ Week11/seoyoung Park 박서영

Summary:
In this chapter, I studied various fields on why war happen.
Historians said that conditions may exist for a war to happen, but they do not know when, where or how it will happen. One scholar described war as a traffic accident. Psychologists thought humans were violent and called war an outlet. The theory states that we can see why war takes place, but we can't tell when or how it happens. Anthropologists see war as a result of learning, not natural. Sociology has long studied war and made various theories about war. But with these theories, it was difficult to predict war. Economic theory can be seen as evidence of economic competition. Information theory states that war is caused by a lack of information.

What was interesting/What did we learn:
I had never thought about the reasons for the war, but it was interesting to hear various ideas about why it happened. It was also interesting to study various reasons for war. I find information theories the most interesting. Information theories states that the reason for the war is a lack of information. It also said that there are two objectives for information gathering. One is to know the enemy's ability and the other is to find out the enemy's intentions. And other theories are all potential ideas. Many theories exist in a phenomenon, so it was interesting to see and interesting to understand.

Discussion point:
I think all the theories about why the war took place are valid. I wonder if there are theories as to why war ends. I also wonder  the theories of why war ended are as diverse as the theories of why war happen.

  1. The end of the war is that either side lost or the interests of the other no longer clash. I think the reason why war ends is less studied than why war begins is because many people know the cause of it so that war does not happen again. I don't think knowing why the war ended is very helpful.

  2. I don't know the theory as to why the war ends. But I think the war will end if it is economically burdensome and there is nothing more to gain from it.
