Week 11-1 : The_Causes_of_War Heo SeonYeong 허선영

Summary:
Historians say that there are several conditions and circumstances that make war possible. However, they see no way of predicting when and where war will take place through the terms and conditions. Social scientists claim that all wars follow some leaders' conscious decisions and cannot be seen accidentally. Psychologists especially argue that men are inherently violent. This violence is repressed in society and can be expressed through war. Prejudice and discontent against other groups can be combined with violence, but it is unknown when and how this happens. Also, if this theory is true, the peaceful times we live in are contradictory. But there are others who believe that this peaceful era is not a peaceful one, but a time for war. There are also speculations that if women become politicians, war will disappear. Anthropologists say that if human societies can be reformed, war will disappear. They also see no link between violence. Sociology uses a lot of data to predict when and where war will take place. Information theory believes that war takes place in the lack of information. Economic theory believes that war is for the benefit of the rich. War breaks out in the pursuit of wealth. Marxist theory believes that war strengthens the power of the ruling class. War breaks out to divide religion by confronting idealistic ideals such as religion.

What was interesting/What did we learn:
It was interesting to look at the war from different perspectives. I found social or information theory easy and interesting. Other people wonder which theory was interesting.

Discussion point:
There is a view that if women become politicians, the war will disappear and be peaceful. What do you think of this view? Also, will affect the modern feminism?

  1. I don't think it's right to see a woman politician making the world peaceful. That is a view that is too biased to the image of gender. They also pass the buck to men, saying that their nature caused them to become war. I think the opinion is degenerating modern society.
