Demography/week13/kim ji yoon/김지윤

1.Summary
Demography is the study of the size, structure and distribution of the population. Factors affecting demographics include birth rate, death rate, migration, and sex ratio. In modern times, the birth rate is lower and the death rate is also lower. It is normal to maintain a basic one-to-one sex ratio.

2.what you learn/what is interesting
Abortion of girls was very common in Korea in the 1980s. The idea of preferring boys was very serious at the time. Because of this, the gender inequality of children born at that time is very unbalanced, the number of women who can marry has declined, and over time it has had a vicious effect.

3.Discussion point
Currently, the South Korean government is implementing policies to encourage childbirth. However, the response to this is contradictory. Some say promoting childbirth is essential to the maintenance of the nation, while others say that it is not necessary to increase the population, but only the obligation of parents to raise their children increases. Do you think policies to encourage childbirth are essential?
