Introduction to sociology / week1 / minji jeong

1. summary

: Sociology is the department of social science that develops and shapes the body of knowledge about humans, society, structure, and activities. This uses a systematic method of empirical research and critical analysis. Much of what humans do is focused on a wide range of topics because it fits into the categories of social structure and social activity. This is a relatively new field of study.  Social scientists have begun exploring the solution to the collapse of social solidarity, analyzing what is binding society. Sociology is divided into quantitative and qualitative sociology. Quantitative sociology is generally a numerical approach to understanding human behavior, and qualitative sociology is a broad and deep approach. Sociologists today study a wide range of subjects unlike past sociologists. For example, they study macro and micro-structure, such as race, ethnicity, gender, crime, divorce, etc.

2. What does interesting/ What did you learn

I learned about the sociologist 'Comte'.
He first used the word 'sociology'. He believed that sociology had the potential to improve direct social and human activities, including other sciences. I interested in his theory. Because it was amazing to have the beginning of the word sociology, and it was thought that his firm belief in sociology was being realized in the present day.

3. disscussion point

: I don't understand this sentences. "The social world is changing. The important point to grasp is: society does not remain unchanged over time."

  1. I think that sentence means, social society changes and changes over time. It doesn’t remain particular situation.

  2. I think it means that society continues to change like the above comments. It is not a fixed state.
