Introduction to Sociology/Week1/김아미 Ami Kim

1.Summary

Sociology is a study of human social life.
The traditional focus of this study contains social relations, social stratification, social interaction, culture and deviance. Moreover sociology has extended to wide range of topics (social scientific methods), including economic activity, health disparities and social activities.
So today sociology has become a special point of view for human social studies, encouraging multicultural research.

2.What was interesting/What did you learn

I get to know that early sociological study was thought that this field was similar to natural sciences such as physics and biology. From the beginning I think sociology has nothing in common with natural sciences. But scientists such as Wilhelm Dilthey and Heinrich Rickert have proved that unlike most other animal societies, because human societies has culture, the natural world is different from the social world.

3.Discussion Point

I think social is changing. So we have to learn sociology for changing social. But this writer says social is not changing as time goes on.
I don't understand this sentence.

  1. I think sociology changes with social change. Social studies don't necessarily change over time, they change according to certain events.
