Sociological Methods/ Week2/ 박서영 seoyoung Park

Summary:

This chapter describes how sociologists study society.
The study of sociologists looks at society in a different way than how we view it.
Sociologists study the reasons for the phenomenon and whether there is no way to prevent it.
Positivism establishes theories and hypotheses, and proceeds with the study.
Qualitative sociology tries to understand social phenomena more easily and repeatedly study them.
Also this two approach contain Characterization, Hypothesis, Prediction ,Testing and repeat over and over again.
If the prediction of this theory is correct, then the theory will survive, but if the prediction is wrong, the theory will disappear.

What was interesting/What did we learn:

The association and explanation of independent and dependent variables were interesting.
An independent variable is a value or quality that researchers have created to proceed with the study.
A dependent variable is a value whose value or quality is changed by an independent variable.
In addition, if the two do not relate, the dependent variable is not changed by the independent variable.
It seems more interesting because at first, there was no connection between the independent and the dependent variables.

Discussion point:

Sociologists say that they study society differently than we do society. However, I wonder if studying society like the way we see it will make it easier for us to understand it.
