Politics / Week 5 /문수빈(Soo Bin Moon)

Summary:

Politics is observed in all human group interactions and is the process by which groups of people make socio-economic decisions. Political power is the power maintained by a group of societies, and the amount of social influence they can exercise depends on the power that individuals or groups possess. Authority is different from power and is explained by weber in three forms: legal authority, traditional authority, and charismatic authority. And because the government has authority and power, individuals can use violence if they do not follow government instructions.
There are various forms of government. The monarchy is a government in which the sovereign ruler, who has the highest power, is the ruler of the country. The sovereignty of democracy is held by citizens in the country. And there are many different kinds of democracy, some of which allow power to be balanced. Totalism is a regulatory system that regulates almost all aspects of public and private life. Oligarchy is a system in which a small number of elite classes rule over the whole. Communism follows the genealogy of Marxist ideology, but there are communist countries that are indigenous. Neoliberalism is a system under which the monarch governs under the influence of theology or national religion.

Women in developed countries have a high probability of voting, but the number of high-ranking officials in women is low. Young people are less likely to vote than elderly people, and older people usually have more power than younger ones. Political power is stratified by income and education, for example, many candidates from US presidents from white and college students.

What was interesting/What did we learn:

It was interesting that the results of the elections were influenced by the media and that people were increasingly distrustful of democracy. In fact, in Korea, it has become controversial because it is revealed that it is trying to manipulate opinion through manipulation of comments. Today, not only traditional media such as television, radio, and newspapers, but also social network media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, have become more powerful. So the ability to detect false information without being misled by the media has become more important.

Discussion point:
How much influence do you think the media has on elections? And what do you think about a particular magazine, like the US, supporting a particular candidate? Do you think it is appropriate for the media to support certain electoral candidates? Please tell me why.

  1. The media should not support a particular candidate because they should be neutral. However, I think the media or the media can have a good or bad influence on an election candidate. During the last primary, Lee was able to win the election to governor of Gyeonggi Province, creating a good image despite controversy over frequent media exposure. This could be an example.

  2. I object to the media supporting a particular party. We are always in touch with the media. But I think it would only affect us if the media delivered biased information about a particular party. We do not disclose the poll results before the election. That is how often we are swayed by other people's opinions. So I think the media should be neutral for a fair election.
