Social Movement/ week12/ minji jeong 정민지

1.Summary

Social movements are social alliances of people connected through shared interests that affect social change. That is, there are a variety of actions that citizens or the public voluntarily participate in to transform the existing social structure and change the system. It can be divided into three categories. First, it's a reformist social movement. It's a social movement that's done in a legal and gradual manner from maintaining the current regime. The second is the revolutionary social movement. This is a movement and movement by citizens to change political power, judging that the existing social system and order cannot solve the problem. As society stabilizes, revolutionary social movements tend to become rare. Lastly, it is a new social movement. It's not the goal of revolutionary movement or political power change, it's the movement of most modern citizens. For example, human rights, environment, women, disabled people, gender minorities, etc.
But social movements and social mobility devices are distinct. Social movement organizations are a component of formal organized social movements. It's also interesting that social movements can cause reactions. For example, the women's movement in the 1960s and 1970s caused numerous protests, most of which were reform movements within conservative religions.

2.Interesting point

Among the theories of social movements, the theory of structural transformation felt similar to that of anomie. Structural transformation causes people to experience scarcity. In addition, people believe there is a problem in society. Dissatisfaction usually serves as a catalyst for turning into a social movement. Structural transformation theory depends on circular logic by integrating at least partial deprivation theory and by integrating social and structural transformations for fundamental motivations of social movements.

3.Discussion

Social movements still occur frequently around us. That's true of us in recent years. Citizens' wishes filled Gwanghwamun Plaza, which became a reality. But often social movements are counterproductive. The women's movement has taken place. Through '#me too'. This social movement has given some the power of cheering and antipathy to others. That is the society we face, the endless battle of gender. I think it's inevitable. That is because it may be right for someone and wrong for someone. But I think the move to try change is right. What do you think?

  1. I also think that the movement to try to change is right. However, it is believed that a solution is necessary in a gender-to-sex or emotional dispute.
