Family/ week13/ 엄서영 Um seoyoung

1. Summary
Families play a role in producing and socializing children. Some cultures impose a duty on married women to have children. The family life cycle is led by courtship, marriage, children, divorce, death and widow. Family types vary from culture to culture, and sometimes new forms are introduced. A single-parent family, recognized as a new family, believed that single-parent families were immoral in the 1950s, but that belief remained around 25 percent in 1978. Another type is cohabitation. This can be seen as an alternative to marriage, but it is not officially recognized. There are several reasons for choosing cohabitation: testing compatibility before marriage, trying to secure financial security, and wanting to have a marriage when it is not legal, such as gay marriage. Finally, some married couples form childless families on a choice or because of infertility, age, or other factors that prevent reproduction.

2. What was interesting/what did you learn
The cohabitation solves the general reason for cohabiting, but it was interesting that it did not improve the quality or duration of marriage. Individuals living together before the engagement (approximately 43% of all couples) report a slightly lower level of marital satisfaction, commitment and reliability than those living together after the engagement (16.4% of all American couples) and those living together after marriage (40.5% in the United States). Early cohabiting people are also likely to divorce. This difference is generally small, but not due to demographic differences between the three groups.

3. Discussion point
The sense of cohabitation is improving in our country. However, living together does not improve the quality or duration of marriage. Will you cohabitation?
