Culture and Religion / Week3 / Kwon Ah Yeon

1. summary

Humans live under the influence of culture.
Various factors such as faith, media, art, fashion, and consciousness belong to human culture. Culture includes meaning given to things and symbols, implicitly diffused rules, and the overall values and beliefs of society. These cultures affect society and perform certain functions, while sociological analysis of culture can analyze behavioral patterns and protect humans from chaos, it can also create social inequality.
Culture is also related to religion. Religion definitions vary widely, and social scientists define religion as an attempt to answer existential questions. It is also defined as the purpose of distinguishing between sacred and insulting things, as well as the collective belief and consciousness of the supernatural.

2. What is interesting

The more I learned about sociology, the more various factors that influenced society. It was interesting that everything, including human petty habits, beliefs, religion, and tacit rules, could be the building blocks of society. All our actions affected society and had not been small.
People have often been influenced by other people's opinions and actions in their daily lives. I think studying the cultures that come from human interaction and living together is a great advantage of sociology.

3. Discussion Point

It is said that faith in religion affects the structure of society, and I would like to know whether this effect is negative or positive. They also found that there were many factors involved in religion. I wonder what there are other common elements besides social factors such as gender, race, and class.
