Introduction to Sociology / Week 1 / Taeyi Lim

1. Summary
Sociology is understanding social phenomena and therefore comprehending society.
Sociology is a very broad field and it can be defined by a variety of things, and it's difficult to determine which one is the best and most accurate.
We need to think about what to do about the matter.
Operationalization is to make the measurement of something that cannot be defined directly (or abstract things).

2. What was interesting / What did you learn
When asked what sociology is, it first came up with a simple dictionary definition of 'study human social life.'
But as I began to think about it, I realized that sociology is a very large part of it and it's hard to define just a few words.
The part that Comte thought social studies should be based on observations was similar to what I thought, because I think society keeps changing.
It was also interesting that sociology has something to do with psychology and economics.
3. Discussion point
Sociology is a study that has a very close relationship with our lives and can help us understand human society and solve social problems.
Even if you're not a professional sociologist, how can we easily get across and understand the subject?

  2. I also think that it is difficult to define sociology with a few words. I also agree that sociology is close to our lives and will help solve our social problems.

  3. To understand deeply about operationalization, we have to pay attention to our near social phenomonon, I think. The harder we study and investigate about it, the deeper we can learn from sociology, actually operationalization..!
