Second week: Sociological Methods Kang SeoJong (강서종)

1.Summary

Sociologists use methods such as authority, experience, logic, tradition, John Creek, science, etc. to assert authority about social life. In sociology, in particular, information collected through science is more privileged than all other information.
Scientific methods or processes are considered fundamental to scientific investigation and acquisition of new knowledge based on verifiable evidence. The building blocks of this scientific method are features, hypotheses, limitations, and tests.Sociologists are interested in predicting results based on their knowledge of relevant variables and relationships. This scientific approach is called positivism.
The scientific approach has deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning, all of which use scientific methods to make observations, collect data, propose hypotheses, and test or shape their hypothesis in the form of the theory.

2.What was interesting/ What did you learn

In this data, the researchers talked about the effects of the ill effects that the presence of the researchers could have on the phenomenon under study. The effects of Hawthorne were interesting because they were unfamiliar words to me.
It has been found that Hawthorne effects are a kind of reaction in which individuals adjust and purify their actions in response when they realize that their actions are being observed.
I could understand why the presence of a researcher affects the phenomenon under study. No matter how scientific sociology uses, I think the study subjects are always objective and unalterable because they are human. It was interesting to note that social studies are based on scientific evidence and methods and cannot rule out the impact of researchers.

3.Discussion Point

There is one topic of discussion: 'How can we maximize the influence of researchers in social studies?'
Secondly, structural functionalism is limited by criticism that it cannot explain social change because it focuses too much on order and balance of society. However, the order, stability and balance that this structuralism pursues cannot be ignored because it is essential for society to continue. Therefore, the topic of discussion on how to secure and maintain the limits of structural functionalism is presented.
