What is sociology? / Week1 / MinSeung Sung

What is sociology? / Week1 / MinSeung Sung

1. Summary
Sociology is the study of human society and its members. In the beginning, social studies differed from modern sociology. It was more like natural science. Social studies have qualitative and quantitative methods. Sociology is sometimes combined with psychology, economics, and communication methods. Social science, among other things, has to do with statistics.

2. Interesting
I think sociology is a ubiquitous study. But surprisingly, sociology began to be studied after the 19th century. It began with the desire to understand social phenomena. Social studies can often seem vague. But I think it's the opposite. The most interesting part was that the period of social studies is short. In order to understand the phenomenon, it is important to not only check the details but also see the big one. In that context, I think sociology helps us to see the phenomenon greatly. So it was most interesting that this sociology did not begin to be studied.

3. Discussion
If early sociology was close to natural science, I would like to discuss which areas of sociology the future will be more integrated into.

  1. I wonder what sociology will be in the future.
But what is clear is that as science and technology progresses, the scope of sociology will also expand.
