What is sociology?/ week1/ 박서영 seoyoung Park

summary:
This week's class is about defining sociology and operationalization.
The definition of sociology is society, social relations, human behavior and social life and so on.
Sociology is also a very diverse field and defining sociology varies from person to person.
So i think sociology is an academic study of changes in society and the changing minds of people.
operationalization is a process of conceptual definition and require a method of measurement.
We can find non-operationalized definition in Google Books and wikipedia.

what was interesting/what did we learn:
I thought the definition of sociology was defined as one thing, but it was amazing that justice varied.
It was the first time I'd thought about operationalization and it was interesting to think about and define how to measure wealth, power in a relationship and depression.

Discussion point:
There are many ways to define sociology, and I wonder if there are any words that are absolutely necessary or words that shouldn't be entered in that definition.

  1. It is consistent with my view that sociology is the study of changes in society and the changing minds of people.
When defining sociology, I thought that unnecessary word was 'personal'.
But after reading your article, I don't think that's because society is also a group of individuals.

  2. I don't think we should make a definite 'no change' when defining sociology.

  3. I think there's a 'social relationship' for all the necessary words. Words such as social structure, culture, behavior, and interaction that we talked about in defining sociology are words that can be included in social relationships.

  4. I think it is impossible to define sociology with any one word.
but, It would be good to have the word "human behavior."
