Deviance / Week 7 / Hye Jeong Sohn

1. Summary
Deviance is an act that violates the norms of particular culture. Every society has its own culture. Therefore, what behavior is defined as deviating varies from culture to culture. Deviance can be divided into two categories. Normal and Abnormal. Normal deviation is an obvious deviation from the legal limit, and Abnormal deviation is an act of faith that is nor legally punished but not morally punished. There are various theories to explain that people avoid deviance to avoid punishment.

2. Interesting
I was amazed that deviance was not absolute but was defined by culture. Then there is no absolute moral standard, and what we believe is morality is that society forced us to do.

3. Discussion
Can we call deviation a negative one?
